Born in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Claude Brooks and the late Reva Tweedy Brooks Williams. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Claude William Brooks.
Gil was a 1963 graduate of EC Glass and attended Lynchburg College. He was the retired partner of Management Info Systems and a former employee of N.C.R. He was very passionate about spending time with his family, taking his dog, Bingo, to the Friends of Lynchburg Dog Park, playing golf, and competitive duplicate bridge where he was recognized by the ACBL for achieving the rank of Silver Life Master.
He is survived by his two sons, Christopher H. Brooks and Robert W. Brooks and his wife, Amy, all of Lynchburg; one brother, A.C. Brooks and his wife, Mary Beth, of Lynchburg; two grandchildren, Sara Brooks and Katherine Brooks; a very close friend, Mary Thompson of Richmond and a number of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Monday, December 9, 2013, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
