Born in Augusta County on May 19, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Raymond Ransford Nuckoles and Ella Mae Campbell Nuckoles. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 46 years, Charles Alvie Rexrode; her sister, Dorothy Dotson; and her brothers, Charlie Nuckoles, Thomas Nuckoles, Raymond Nuckoles, and Carl Nuckoles.
Hazel is survived by her loving daughter, Pamela Barney and husband, Mike, of Spout Spring; two sons, Terry Rexrode and wife, Ann, of Concord and Ricky Rexrode and wife, Lorna, of Forest; her sister, Phyllis Western of Verona; her brother, Russell Nuckoles, of Staunton; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and two cherished grand dogs, Brook and River.
Hazel was a devoted homemaker whose greatest joy was caring for her family. She had a special love for children and taught kindergarten before it became part of the public school system. She later worked at Kroger, where she enjoyed selling Gunnoe’s sausage and visiting with customers. Known as an exceptional cook, Hazel delighted in preparing meals that brought her family together around the table. Her home was always a place of warmth, hospitality, and love.
A faithful Christian, Hazel was a longtime member of Marsh Memorial United Methodist Church, where her faith remained an important part of her life.
A graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
