Hilda L. Callahan

Born on January 11, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Lelia Lipscomb.

Hilda was a former member of Fairview Christian Church and Thomas Road Baptist Church. She was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church for 19 years. She retired from Craddock and Terry after 20 years of service and also from GE after 35 years of service. Hilda was a devoted mother to her son. She never met a stranger and always made time to visit with the other residence and staff at the Bedford nursing home. She loved reading her bible and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by five brothers, Lewis Lipscomb, Richard Lipscomb, Samuel Lipscomb, Paul Lipscomb, and John Lipscomb and two nephews, Thomas Lipscomb and Allen Lipscomb.

Left to cherish her memory is her son, Richard Wayne Callahan; her siblings, Frances Mae Cheatham and husband Albert, Robert Thomas Lipscomb and wife Betty, Doris Ann Booker, Loretta Carol Buraker, and Winifred Charlotte Harvey and husband James; twelve nieces and nephews, Ronald Cheatham, Carol Lindsay, Debra Boehle, Tee Lipscomb, Diane Potter, Michael Schmidt, Teresa Carroll, Annette Gilbert, Wayne Buraker, Gary Harvey, Rhonda Kopitzke, and JW Lipscomb; numerous great nieces and nephews; special friend, Dot Hammock; and a devoted neighbor, Robin.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors at Centra Health and to the doctors and staff of Centra Hospice for their excellent care of Hilda during her illness.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 4, 2014 from 6 to 8 pm at Whitten Timberlake Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Friday, December 5, 2014 at Gethsemane Baptist Church, with Rev. Carlton Duck officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
