
Hope Staton, 77, of Lynchburg died Thursday July 21, 2011 at Lynchburg General Hospital surrounded by his family after several years of declining health. He was able to celebrate his 77th birthday with family and friends the day before his death.
Hope was born July 20, 1934 in Amherst County to the late William Riley and Ida Martin Staton. He was a long time member of Lynchburg Church of the Brethren.
He is survived by his wife Carol Harder Staton of nearly 56 years, who was also his most devoted caretaker and constant companion. He is also survived by 3 children, Carlton Staton, of Lynchburg, Sue Eades (Christopher) of Evington and Gary Staton (Donna) of Forest. Four grandchildren, Carlton Staton Jr. (Jennifer), Justin Shupe, Jaclyn Staton and Holden Staton; Two great-grandchildren, Briana and Aden Staton; sister Matris Watts; sisters-in-law, Georgie and Phyllis Staton.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Grover Loving and Roy O’Gary Staton.
He retired from Flowers Baking Company after 35 years of service. In addition he was also self-employed as a tree surgeon and provided lawn care for many customers. He will be remembered for his ability for telling funny tales of himself and others, and his sense of humor. He was an avid gardener and also enjoyed his time with family and friends. He really enjoyed the time spent with his grandchildren. The family extends gratitude to Lynchburg General’s PCU and MICU nursing Staff, Dr. Betsy Cook, Respiratory Care and Centra Hospice staff Elaine Dameron, Betsy Faughn, Miriam Dakin, Mel Gallaham and Katie Williams.
Funeral service will be held Monday, at 11:00 am, July 25, 2011 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel by Pastor Bill Evans, Hospice Chaplain Miriam Dakin, and the Rev. Jennifer Foust. Interment will follow in Virginia Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
