

Born in Campbell County, August 10, 1921, he was a son of the late Oscar Leftwich Phillips and Lucy Miear Phillips. He was retired from Lane Furniture Company and was a long time faithful member of Beulah Baptist Church where he had served on the Usher Committee, as Deacon and President of his Sunday school class. He was a member of Woodman of the World for over 50 years. He also loved visiting his church members and friends in the nursing homes.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Thornton A. Phillips, Lee E. Phillips and Thomas A. Phillips and two sisters, Betty B. Phillips and Mary P. Tyree.
He is survived by two sisters, Catherine V. Phillips of Evington and Emma P. Woodford and her husband Fred of Huddleston; one brother-in-law, Homer Tyree of Madison Heights and two sisters-in-law, Thelma Phillips of Lynchburg and Shirley Phillips of Evington.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 17, 2013 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with the Rev. Dwight Weaver the Rev. Brian Seay and the Rev. Dennis Hollandsworth officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. today at the funeral home and at other times at the home of his sister Catherine.
