

James Edward Abbott, 74, of Evington, passed away Sunday, April 5, 2015, at the Lynchburg Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born July 30, 1940, in Bedford County, he was the son of the late James Vernon Abbott and the late Mollie Slough Abbott.
James was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. He was a loving son, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by two sisters, Etta Mae Abbott and Myrlin A. Dunn; and one brother, Billy Abbott.
James is survived by his son, Jimmy Abbott and his wife June of Lynchburg; his sister, Catherine A. Dudley and her husband Willard (who was a very special brother-in-law who is loved and cared for by the entire family) of Evington; two grandchildren, Kimberley Abbott Stewart and her husband Michael of Texas and Coty Abbott of Lynchburg; three great grandchildren, Shane Stewart, Matthew Stewart and Khloe Stewart, all of Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews and other loving family members.
A graveside service, requested by James, will be conducted 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
By James’ request, there will be no scheduled visitation hours at the funeral home but friends and family are welcome to visit at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either Centra Hospice, 2097 Langhorne Rd., Lynchburg, VA 24501 or the American Cancer Society, 2500 Langhorne Rd. #201, Lynchburg, VA 24501.
