James Walter Cassidy

James Walter “Jimmy” Cassidy, 73, of Lynchburg passed away on Friday, October 19, 2018 at home with family surrounding him. He was the husband of the late Linda Ballowe Cassidy. Born on December 30, 1944 in Statesville, NC, he was the son of the late John Ambrose “Jack” Cassidy, Sr. and the late Doris Foster Cassidy Hancock. Jimmy served our country in the United States Air Force during Vietnam and retired from Miller Brewing Ball Corporation after 20 years of service. After retirement, he did some security work. He enjoyed fishing, boating with his wife, going to the beach, camping and baseball. Jimmy was a member of Tree of Life and drove the church van which he enjoyed. Jimmy loved his church and most of all loved God. He also loved to travel. He once went to Ireland for a family reunion. In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by two step-sons, Terry Clements and Lewis Fralish, Jr.; brother, Joe Cassidy; and sister, Janet Bates. Jimmy is survived by his children, Sherry Lambert and husband Gerald of Rustburg and Jerry Clements and friend Rick of Lynchburg; step-son, Barney Ussery; eight grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; brothers, John Cassidy and wife Evelyn of Ohio and Jack Cassidy, Jr. and wife Nealy of Forest; brother-in-law, Charles Ballowe and wife Bonnie of Forest; special family member, Doris Campbell of South Carolina; close and special friend; John Edwards; and numerous other family members. Jimmy, Sherry and family would like to thank a very special friend and care provider, Dana Simms and also Rick Supry for their care during Jimmy’s illness. They would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Centra Hospice. A graveside service will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at Fort Hill Memorial Park, with Pastor Mike Dodson officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tree of Life Ministries.
