James “Dickie” Robert Johnson, 73, of Lynchburg, passed away, Tuesday, August 27, 2013, at Avante’ Nursing Home. Born September 26, 1939, in Campbell County, he was the son of the late Madeline Virginia Johnson Cofer.
James was a retired assistant manager for Nick’s Café, and attended Thomas Road Baptist Church. He was a loving son, brother, nephew and friend. James loved all sports of any kind, especially NASCAR, where his favorite driver was Tony Stewart.
In addition to his mother, James was preceded in death by one brother, John Rosser Cofer and a special uncle, Johnny Johnson.
James is survived by his siblings, Tom Cofer (Nancy) of Spout Springs and Shirley Brookman of Concord; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
A memorial service will be conducted, 11a.m., Friday, August 30, 2013, at Whitten Park Avenue Chapel with the Rev. Lenn Lloyd officiating.
The family will receive friends one-half hour prior to the service from 10:30a.m. – 11a.m., Friday, August 30, 2013, at Whitten Park Avenue Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to the D.A.V. or the Veteran’s Hospital in Salem, VA.
