

Born May 5, 1935 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late David Lewis Watson and Hattie Barbour Watson. Jane was a homemaker and coordinator of the Kitchen at Chestnut Hill Baptist Church for over 20 years. She was a faithful member of Chestnut Hill Baptist Church where she was a member of the Sunshine Scatterers. She was also a member of the P. Buckley Moss Society- “Moss in the Forest” chapter.
In addition to her parents and husband George M. Childress she is also preceded in death by a brother, Freddy Watson.
Those left to cherish Jane’s memory are her daughters, Katherine L. Childress of Gainesville, Fla. and Susan C. Barley and husband, Butch of Concord; brothers, David (Pete) Watson, Jr. and wife, Jenni, Danny W. Watson, Robbery (Deanie) Watson, Dale Watson; sisters, Nell W. Emerson, Dellie W. Coward and Darlene W. Tosh; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, May 24, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in Chestnut Hill Baptist Church by the Rev. Randy Bower and Dr. Robert Putt. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 23, 2012 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and other times at the residence.
The family request memorial contributions go to Chestnut Hill Baptist Church Kitchen Coordinator fund or Gleaning for the World.
The family would like to thank the staff of Lynchburg General Hospital; CVRU, PCU, and ICU for their compassionate care.
