Janet Rasnic Johnston

Born February 28, 1962, Janet was raised in Richmond, Virginia, before eventually settling in Lynchburg, Virginia, which she proudly called home for the rest of her life. There she planted deep roots, built lasting friendships, and devoted herself to the people she loved most.

Janet spent part of her career serving as a teacher assistant for special education students at Linkhorne Middle School. She approached her work with compassion and patience, and she took great pride in supporting and encouraging the children entrusted to her care.

Her faith was a cornerstone of her life. Janet was baptized at Blue Ridge Community Church and joyfully accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior. She found strength, comfort, and purpose in her faith throughout the years.

Nothing in Janet's life was more important than her family. She was happiest when surrounded by those she loved, whether gathered around a table, sharing stories, or enjoying spirited games together. The memories she created with her family will remain treasured for generations to come.

Janet had a vibrant personality and an enthusiasm for life's simple pleasures. She enjoyed shopping trips, having her nails done, tanning, and savoring an ice-cold Diet Mountain Dew. She was proudly patriotic and held a deep love and appreciation for her country.

Wherever Janet went, laughter was sure to follow. She was often the life of the party, with a contagious laugh and a wonderful sense of humor that could brighten any room. She had a remarkable gift for making others feel welcome, comfortable, and genuinely loved.

Those who knew Janet will remember her as passionate, kindhearted, funny, and fiercely loyal. Above all, she was a devoted and protective mother whose love for her children was unwavering and immeasurable. Her legacy of faith, love, laughter, and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.

In addition to her father Janet was preceded in passing by a daughter Erica Burch; and her older sister Judy Morris.

Those left to cherish Janet’s memory include the love of her life whom she cherished for nearly 25 years Rodney Johnston; her children Jeanine Johnston, 36, Jacob Johnston 31; her grandchildren Ella Johnston, 15, Oakley Johnston, 2; her sister Tracey Hill; her mother Shelvia McMillan and step-father Will McMillan; and nieces Mindy Morris and Amanda Morris.
