

She was born on September 29, 1926, in Amherst, Virginia, a daughter of the late Horance Reeves Floyd and Arva Garvin Floyd. Jean was a retired secretary from the U.S. Civil Service after 20 years of service. She was a member of the Miles Memorial United Methodist Church, and worked extensively for the community and church. She is preceded in death by her three sisters: Vivian F. Wagner, Mary F. Rowe, and Helen F. Tadlock; and her brother, Carlton G. Floyd.
Jean is survived by her two daughters: Jo Ella Lawrence, and her husband Leland, Karen Steele, both of Poquoson, VA; her step-son, Allen Lane, and his wife Debbie, of Chesapeake, VA; her three brothers: H.H. “Buck” Floyd, James W. Floyd, and his wife Dea, and Robert R. Floyd, and his wife Jean, all of the Lynchburg area; six grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She enjoyed her life to the fullest. A celebration of Jean’s life will be conducted on Monday, September 6, 2010 at 11:00 am at Fort Hill Memorial Park with Pastor Dan Manley officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 5, 2010 from 7:00 to 8:30 pm at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.
