

Born in Campbell County, June 4, 1932, he was the son of the late Archie Dell Childress and Eulalua Clay Childress. Jeff was retired from the United States Air Force after 20 years of service and was the retired owner and operator of Childress Heating and Air. He was a member of Edge Baptist Church in Gladys.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Virginia Boaze Childress; one son, Jeff. L. Childress, Jr. and one daughter Debra Fallen.
He is survived by one brother, John Childress of Brookneal; seven sisters, Bessie Pollard of Brookneal, Birdie Miller and Katie Thomas both of Lynchburg, Jean Carr of Richmond, Sadie Jennings of Amherst, Judy Shaw of Madison Heights and Rita Jackson of Gladys; two grandchildren, Mary Marie Childress and Kevin Fallen; his step-son, Preston Burnett and his wife Vicky and their daughter Ashley, whom he thought of as his granddaughter and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, July 17, 2016 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with the Rev. Zane Kramer officiating. Interment will follow in Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery in Naruna with military honors by the American Legion Post 16.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service.
