John Howard Hunton

He was born in Boonville, IN on February 15, 1927, son of the late Edwin and Nellie Hunton.

He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. John was the retired baseball coach for Liberty University. During his career he had been the assistant baseball coach for University of South Carolina for 17 years and had played baseball for the New York Yankees farm team.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Frances H. McLanahan and two brothers, Richard Hunton and Robert Hunton.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 74 years, Patricia K. Hunton; and seven nieces and nephews, Richard Hunton and wife Cindy, Jenifer H. Diachenko and husband Stephen, Susie H. Klakring and husband Mike, Bruce McLanahan and wife Leslie, Esther Cruice and husband Steve, Paul McLanahan and Philip McLanahan.

The family will receive friends from 2 – 3 on Sunday, January 26, 2025 at Thomas Road Baptist Church Pate Chapel where a Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 pm with Pastor Jonathan Falwell officiating.

Burial will be 2:00 pm on Monday, January 27, 2025 at Virginia Memorial Park.
