

John Harvey Jones Jr., age 70, passed into the arms of his loving Savior August 29, 2017 at home with his loving daughter by his side, following a nearly five-year courageous battle with cancer. John grew up in Mt. Airy, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents John Harvey Jones Sr. and Wilma Talbert Jones. John is survived by his daughter, Michelle Renee Jones, of Jacksonville, Florida.
With distinction, Mr. Jones served 12 years of active duty and 4 years of reserve duty in the military, for both the Army and the Navy branches. As an Army soldier in Vietnam, he received commendations for his dedication and bravery. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Army and Navy as both an officer and enlisted was demonstrated in his character throughout his life.
At Kernan Boulvard Baptist church in Jacksonville, Florida, he was a faithful member and servant of the Lord. With the long-suffering while battling cancer, he always presented an attitude of meekness and gentleness. He was a great example of God’s unconditional love for His children. For those who knew John, he was a totally devoted father who displayed a wonderful fatherly love, as a single parent, to his only daughter, Michelle.
A graveside service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at Culpeper National Cemetery, 305 U. S. Avenue, Culpeper, VA. Full military honors will be presented by the National Guard. A memorial service will be held at 4 pm on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel in Lynchburg, Virginia.
