

John Joseph Malloy, Jr. “Skillett”, 85, of Lynchburg, died Sunday, March 4, 2012, at his residence. He was the husband of Sheila Fitchett Malloy. Born September 25, 1926, in Pittsburgh, PA, he was the son of the late John Joseph Malloy, Sr. and the late Phyllis Elizabeth Glass Malloy Reardon.
Mr. Malloy was a retired school teacher for Lynchburg City Schools and he was of the Methodist faith. Mr. Malloy also served our country in the US Navy during World War II. Mr. Malloy was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame for the semi-pro basketball league from Elon and Lynchburg College.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Malloy is survived by his daughter, Catherine Malloy Almond of Lynchburg; his grandson, Anthony Wayne Almond of Lynchburg; two great-grandchildren, Chancson Almond and Madison Almond; his sister, Nellie Hicks of Lynchburg; and his nephew, William Hicks, also of Lynchburg.
A funeral service will be conducted, 6:00 p.m., Thursday, March 8, 2012 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with the Rev. David Heerspink officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, March 8, 2012, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and at other times at the residence.
