Born in Lynchburg, October 16, 1950 he was a son of Jean Gowen Scruggs and the late John Edward Scruggs, Sr.
John is also preceded in death by his daughter, Jeannie Scruggs and son, Daniel Scruggs.
In addition to Frances and his mother Jean, John is survived by his sister, Judy Wills; brother, Jerry Scruggs and wife, Donna; step-daughters, Stacey Robertson, Brooke Smith; grandchildren, Adam, Brian, Tyler, Dakota, Brendan, and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Friday, January 4, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Whitten Timberlake Chapel conducted by Rev. Mickey Ryan. Interment will follow in Virginia Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Thursday, January 3 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
