John Richard Simpson

John Richard “Buddy Deal” Simpson, 84, of Evington, passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at his winter home in St. Cloud, Florida. Twice married, he was the husband of the late Girlie Norvell Simpson and the late Gladys L. Simpson.

Born November 10, 1926 in Amherst County, he was the son of the late Ernest Thomas and Sadie Belle Abbott Simpson and was also preceded in death by a daughter, June Ann Simpson and grandparents, Richard and Mittie Deal. He was retired from Griffin Pipe Foundry and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

Mr. Simpson is survived by three sons, John W. Simpson and wife, Peggy of Evington, Rodney J. Simpson and wife, Tina of Madison Heights, and Ricky T. Simpson of Lynchburg; two daughters, Joyce Ann Harris of Madison Heights and Linda Gail Simpson of New York; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 2, 2011 at Spring Hill Cemetery with the Rev. David Rowland officiating. Interment with military honors by American Legion Post 16 will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m., Friday, July 1, 2011 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.
