Joseph Michael "Mike" Bort

Born in Bethesda, MD, November 14, 1951, he was a son of the late Joseph Everett Bort and Jackie Bain Bort. Mike “Boat” was retired from the Lynchburg Fire Department after 25 years of service and he was a long time member of the Concord Rescue Squad.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Diane Taylor Bort and one brother; John Bort.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Donovan Edward Bort and his wife BethAnne of Apex, NC; one step-daughter, Andrea Taylor and her husband Corey of Lynchburg; one step-son, Nicholas Furney of Chicago, IL; three sisters, Margo Berard, Donna Myers and Michelle Srisatta; two grandchildren, Rachel Bort and Nate Bort and two step-grandchildren, Mackenzie Taylor and Sydney Taylor.

A memorial service celebrating his life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at Timberlake Christian Church with the Rev. Bob Mooty officiating. The members of the Lynchburg Fire Department will provide honors. Reception immediately following the service at the church.
