Born on October 23, 1949, in Halifax County, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Roy Burton and Sallie Throckmorton Burton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Mann, and her brother, Chuck Layne.
Judith found joy in the simple pleasures of life and treasured the time she spent with those she loved. She had a love for music and dancing, enjoyed playing games, and especially cherished fishing with her longtime companion, Timothy Horne. Judith enjoyed cooking and canning food, sharing the fruits of her labor with those around her. She also held a special place in her heart for her beloved dog, Precious, who brought her comfort and companionship. Her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, but the memories she leaves behind will continue to bring comfort to those whose lives she touched.
Left to cherish her memory is her significant other of more than 20 years, Timothy Horne; her three children, Larry Lee Johnson (Tammy), Herbert Lee Johnson Jr. (Regina), and Jeffrey Wayne Johnson; her three stepchildren, David Mann, Sherry Man, and Michelle Mann; her brother, Mike Layne (Lynn) and sister, Vivian Layne. She also leaves behind numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, all of whom will carry her memory forward with love.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 31, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. until 12:45 p.m. at Whitten Timberlake Chapel. A Celebration of Life will follow at 1:00 p.m., with Pastor David Turner officiating. A reception will follow the service in the chapel.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Judith’s memory to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org.
