

She was the widow of Wilson Bledsoe “Slim” Whitten after 60 years of marriage.
Born in Amherst Co., she was the daughter of the late Joe Lawson Beard and the late Luna Cash Beard.
In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, William Edward Whitten.
Julia was a member of Marsh Memorial United Methodist Church and a loving wife and mother.
She is survived by one daughter, Bonnie W. Tate and her husband, Jimmie of Forest and two brothers, George L. Beard of Lexington and Harold G. Beard of Richmond.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Monday, December 19, 2011, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with the Reverend Wayne Lanham officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., today, December 18, 2011, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.
