
Laban Alexander Coleman, 78, of Madison Heights, died Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at Lynchburg General Hospital, after a lengthy illness.
Born Dec. 29, 1932, in Amherst County, he was the son of the late Clarence Linwood Coleman Sr. and the late Bessie Z. Coleman and was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou Kidd Coleman; his daughter, Susan Coleman; a brother, the Rev. C. Linwood Coleman Jr. and brother-in-law, Eugene Knight. He was retired from Barker-Jennings and a member of the First Baptist Church of Monroe. Laban served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Mary C. Knight of Coleman Falls, Mrs. Dorothy C. Baber and husband, Henry of Richmond, and Mrs. Shirley C. Donaldson and husband, Billy of Farmville; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Juanita Coleman of Richmond; six nephews; three nieces and a very special friend, Jimmy Ayers.
Mr. Coleman's visitation will be Saturday, March 12, 2011, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Whitten Monelison Chapel, 3966 South Amherst Highway, Madison Heights with the funeral service following at 2 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Glynn Coleman. Burial will follow in the Mantiply Family Cemetery on Dixie Airport Road.
