Born on December 25th, 1950 in Botetourt County, Lacey worked faithfully from the age of 18 until his retirement at 62, as a groundskeeper at Boonsboro Country Club, dedicating more than four decades to a place that became an important part of his life. A true outdoorsman at heart, he was happiest when he was outside and enjoying the things he loved. He had a passion for hunting and fishing, took great pride in his garden, and enjoyed riding his 4-wheeler and spending time on the golf course. He appreciated the simple pleasures of life and found fulfillment in working with his hands, being outdoors, and making time for the hobbies that brought him joy. His life and impact will be deeply missed.
In addition to his parents Lacey was preceded in passing by his brothers Robert Ayers, Donnie Ayers; and his sisters Mary Jane Ayers, Mae Ayers, and Margaret Ayers.
Those left to cherish Lacey’s memory include his siblings Tommy Ayers and his wife Billie, Bessie Kirby, Bobby Ayers and his girlfriend Brittney, Ann Sage and her husband Kenny, Sue Ayers and her husband Ralph, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a visitation to celebrate Lacey’s life and legacy on Wednesday September 2nd, 2026, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel from 6-8pm.
A private family burial will take place at a later date.
