Lawson David Laughlin

Born on May 24, 1939 in Bedford County, he was the son of the late Vivian Edward Laughlin and Nora Goodman Laughlin. He was a member of Timber Ridge Baptist Church in Bedford.

Lawson served our country during the Vietnam era in the United States Army. He was the co-owner of Laughlin and Easter Masonry and was the best brick mason in the area. Lawson was the greatest daddy and pawpaw in the world and he built all of his daughters their home. He enjoyed working outdoors on the farm and gardening.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Jean Laughlin; son, David Perez Laughlin; daughter, Donna Laughlin Wills; sister, May Dobyns; and brothers, Pete Laughlin and Nelson Laughlin.

Left to cherish his memories are his daughters, Sueanna Salmonsson and husband Bengt, Loretta “Pudgy” Beemer and husband Barry, and Michelle “Mickey” Stephens and husband Eddie; 16 grandchildren, Jeannie Johnson, Candace Murray, Brandon Jennings, Amanda Jennings, Jessica Wills, Taylor Wills, Bryan Beemer, Brady Beemer, Brittany Beemer, Jeremy Grant, Brandon Beemer, Joshua Grant, Nora Jean Blom, Brittany Riley, Linsday Stephens, and Leake Johnson; 12 great grandchildren; siblings, Nellie Breeden, Martha Hatter, Hayden Laughlin, Diane Baldwin, John Clifton Laughlin, and Leland Dobyns; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and other family members.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the doctors and staff at UVA Medical Center for their wonderful support and compassion after Lawson’s accident.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 pm on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and at other times at Loretta and Barry’s residence.

A funeral service will be held at 3 pm on Thursday, September 22, 2016 at Timber Ridge Baptist Church, with Pastor Phillip Kelley officiating. Interment will follow at Nicopolis United Methodist Church Cemetery in Bedford.
