Lewis Alton Long

Lewis Alton Long, 80, of Lynchburg escaped the clutches of the “damned” Alzheimer’s Disease on Thursday, July 20, 2017, at his residence. He was the husband of Lillie Ann Campbell Long for 23 years, who took wonderful care of him during his battle with Alzheimer’s and prostate cancer. Born April 28, 1937, in Mayfield, KY, he was the son of the late Richard Alton Long and the late Mary Elizabeth Lewis Long.

Lewis was a retired industrial engineer for Limitorque (Flowserve), and was a member of Living Water Ministries. He served our country in the U.S. Air Force during the years of 1958-1962. Lewis enjoyed bowling, dancing, eating Pop Tarts and singing along to his favorite tunes.

In addition to his wife, Lewis is survived by his children, Scott Long of Graham, NC, Shawn Long of Lynchburg, Shannon Moore and her husband Jimmy of Evington and Stuart Long and his wife Trina of Lynchburg; two stepchildren, Jeffrey Powers and his wife Lisa of Evington and Beth Campbell and her husband Robert of Lynchburg; seven grandchildren, Brandon Long, Katlyne Greene, Savhanna Long, Aiden Long, Joshua Powers and his wife Christy, Jacob Campbell and Lucas Campbell; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law whose company he greatly enjoyed.

The family would like to acknowledge Robert, Beth, Jacob and Lucas Campbell who helped watch over and care for Lewis in his declining years. They would also like to send a special thank you to Jennifer and Sabrina of the Amedisys Hospice Care.

A memorial service will be conducted 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 25, 2017, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with Pastor Mac Almond officiating. The family will receive friends following the service until 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
