Linda West Inge, 75, of Lynchburg, passed away surrounded by friends and family on July 27, 2017, after a series of health incidents. Linda was the widow of Frank Winston Inge, who passed away at age 69 in 2008. The couple enjoyed 44 years of marriage before Frank was called away. She has been a resident of Valley View Retirement Community for the past several years.
Linda was born May 15, 1942, in Steubenville, Ohio, to the late Charles J. and the late Norma H. West. Linda grew up in Weirton, WV, Newtown, PA, and Seaford, DE, with sister Karen "Sue" W. Henderson, and brother David W. West, both of Lynchburg, and brother James D. West, deceased, of Fairhope, AL. Linda graduated from Seaford High School in 1960 and went on to earn a bachelor's degree from Radford College in Virginia, with undergraduate work in mathematics and psychology, where she met and married Frank. She later earned her Masters in Education from Lynchburg College.
Linda was a teacher in Lynchburg City Schools and a teacher and administrator at the former private Seven Hills School in Lynchburg. Linda was honored to serve as a Deacon at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Lynchburg. She also voluntarily served on accreditation committees with both the Virginia Association of Independent Schools and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. She later went on to a successful career in sales.
Linda was an outgoing and social person who enjoyed the company of many wonderful friends. She adored entertaining, dining out, playing cards, doting on grandchildren, and traveling. She particularly loved spending time at her beach house in Sandbridge, VA, surrounded by friends and family. The family wishes to celebrate the life-long friendships of Russell and Mary Jane Gregory of Harrisonburg, VA, and Bill and Roberta Rhyne of Oak Ridge, TN. The family especially wishes to recognize the extraordinary care and loving companionship provided by Linda's sister, Sue Henderson.
In addition to her siblings, Linda is survived by daughter Dana Michelle Inge (48) of High Rock Lake, NC, and her son and daughter-in-law Scott Edward Inge (49) and Emily Fraser Inge, of Raleigh, NC. Linda is also survived by four grandchildren: Tyler Evan Inge (22), Bethany Parry Inge (12), Andrew Winston Inge (11), and Whitney West Inge (6), all of Raleigh, NC.
All who knew Linda can appreciate her fiery humor, astute wit, remarkable intelligence, and faithful devotion to loved ones. She was spirited in so many ways, a joy to be around, and will be tremendously missed. Memorial services will be private and held at a future date.
