Louise J. Freeman, 84, of Lynchburg, passed away peacefully, Monday, February 17, 2014, at Lynchburg General Hospital with her family by her side. She was the widow of Walter F. Freeman, to whom she was married for sixty-two years.
Born May 21, 1929, in Appomattox County, she was the daughter of the late Frank Edward Jennings and the late Alma Drinkard Jennings. She was valedictorian of her 1946 class of New London Academy in Forest and later graduated from Phillips Business College. She worked for many years early in her career as a secretary/bookkeeper for John J. Morrison and Sons, Inc. and retired from Wiley and Wilson after working for years in their Specifications Department. After her retirement, Louise enjoyed doing volunteer work with the Women's Resource Center of Central Virginia.
Louise loved nature and wildlife and enjoyed traveling in her younger years. She enjoyed music and played the piano beautifully. She loved reading and learning and watching movies and especially enjoyed getting together and reminiscing with family and friends over the years. Louise was a member of Heritage United Methodist Church and also recently attended Sunday services at Valley View. She was a strong, humble, loving and caring woman who leaves behind precious memories.
In addition to her husband and parents, Louise was preceded in death by her brother, Frank Edward Jennings, Jr. and by her son-in-law, Jeffrey Macbeth.
Louise is survived by her two daughters, Lynn Macbeth of Madison Heights and Ann Marie Myers and her husband Steve of Forest; her brother Lloyd H. Jennings and his wife Sandra of Richmond; one grandson, Mike Macbeth and his family of Tucson, AZ; one granddaughter, Jessie Ros and her family of Brandon, FL; and many other dear, loving family members and friends.
The family wishes to express sincere thanks to the Valley View Retirement Community, where Louise made her home since shortly after Walter’s death in 2011. The family also expresses appreciation to Dr. David Cannon for his long-term love and care, and to Dr. Dwight Oldham and the staff of LGH’s 4th Oncology Floor for their excellent care and kindness during Louise’s final days. A special thank you to Marcia and Tiffany for their help and loving kindness to Louise over the past few months.
A memorial service will be conducted 1:00 p.m., Friday, February 21, 2014 at Heritage United Methodist Church with the Rev. Megan Saucier officiating. The family will receive friends at a reception at the church immediately following the service. A service will also be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Louise’s memory to Heritage United Methodist Church, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, or a charity of your choice.
