Loyd "Don" Donald Johnson Sr.

Loyd Donald “Don” Johnson, Sr., 87, of Lynchburg, went to be with his Lord on Friday, June 1, 2018, at his residence. He was the loving husband of Doris Cawthorne Johnson for 25 years.
Born on May 21, 1931, in Galivants Ferry, S.C., he was the son of the late John and Manetta Johnson. Don was the owner of Johnson Overhead Door Company and a member of Jordan Baptist Church, where he was the chairman of the deacon board. He also enjoyed fishing and was a NASCAR enthusiast. Don loved his family and will be greatly missed.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Goldie Johnson who passed away in 1993, and seven siblings.
Don is survived by his wife, Doris Johson; children, Goldie Archer (Ronald), LD Johnson, Jr. (Debbie), and Spike Staton (Debbie); two brothers, JB Johnson, Jr. and Joe Johnson (Donna); sister, Reba Stout (Yogi); numerous grandchildren, other family members and friends.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Tammy Tweety and Brenda Little from 7-Hills Hospice for their kind compassion during Don’s illness.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at Jordan Baptist Church, with Pastor Melvin Campbell officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, starting at 10 a.m. and at other times at the residence.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Jordan Baptist Church, Building Fund, 3708 Parkwood Avenue, Lynchburg, VA 24501.
