Lucy Johnson Mays, 99 of Rustburg, passed away on Monday, October 3, 2022 at her home.
She was born in Nelson County on September 13, 1923, daughter of the late John Mathew Johnson and the late Lucy Jean Powell Johnson.
Lucy was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church and was a retired Fancy Stitcher with Craddock & Terry. Her passion was the love she had for her family and cooking for them as well as anyone else that came along. She would feed anyone and always cooked plenty of food for all.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of almost 65 years, Robert Nathaniel Mays; two children, Robbie Waldren Williams and Hilda Marie Simonton; her eight brothers and sisters as well as two great-great grandchildren.
Survived to cherish her memory are a daughter, Deveta Jean Harris; five grandchildren, Debbie Hendricks Warren (Tom), John Preston Harris, Jr. (Janet), Diane Vest, Robert Lee Simonton, Jr. (Karen), and Wanda Williams Williamson; nine great grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren and one great-great-great grandchild.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, October 10, 2022 at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 3-5 pm on Sunday, October 9, 2022 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to Bethany United Methodist Church or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
