Born in Bedford on October 24, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Maurice Witt and Arlene May Witt. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, George Henry Blanks, Jr.
Marla was a woman of strong Christian faith from an early age. Her love for the Lord was reflected in a lifetime of service to her church family. She began playing the piano at Timberlake Baptist Church as a young girl and later continued her faithful ministry as church pianist at Campbell Avenue Baptist Church, where she was a devoted member for many years.
Known as a true people person, Marla made friends wherever she went and welcomed others with warmth and kindness. She was an amazing cook who lovingly prepared home-cooked meals for her family each day, and she also found joy and peace in gardening. Above all, she was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, whose faith and love shaped generations of her family.
She is survived by her children, George H. Blanks, III of Lynchburg and Michelle Blanks Pauley and husband Rick of Bedford; her granddaughter, Whitney Page; her great-grandchildren, Lily Page and Liam Gibson; her brother, Timothy Witt and wife Nancy of Evington; her sister, Sharon Hogan of Rustburg; and a number of nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
A memorial service celebrating Marla’s life and faith will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.
Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider Campbell Avenue Baptist Church, in honor of Marla’s lifelong faith and service.
