

Born in Troutville, March 18, 1927, he was the son of the late James Shelburn Hiner and Annie Elizabeth Smith Hiner. Marvin was a U.S. Navy veteran and served during WWII. He spent his career as a truck driver and retired from Burlington Industries after 30 years of service. Marvin was mostly known by all for his love and testimony for his Lord Jesus Christ. Following his trucking career he served with Transport for Christ ministries. Later he served as Pastor of First Southern Baptist Church in Hurt for 6 years and as the senior adult Pastor at Hyland Heights Baptist Church where he was a member.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Vera Alice Higginbotham and Linda Marie Byrum; four sisters, Ruth Dudding, Kathleen Bower, Nellie Baker and Alma Gearheart; two brothers, Russell Hiner and Clarence Hiner; one granddaughter, Kelly Dease and three great grandsons, Landon and Carter Vallorani and Isaac Spillers.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Jenny Carol Willis and her husband Mike of Fountain, MI; two sons, James Shelburn Hiner II, and his wife Belinda of Liberty, NC and Mark Patrick Hiner and his wife Jan of Rustburg; 11 grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren of nieces and nephews.
A service celebrating Marvin’s life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 2, 2017 at Hyland Heights Baptist Church with Pastor Carl Weiser officiating. Interment will follow at Altavista Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.
