Neil "Snookie" Calloway

He is survived by his children Tammie Calloway Pickering and husband John of Atlanta, Georgia, Tina Calloway Wooldridge and husband Rob, Neil S. Calloway, Jr., and Tandy Sue Reid and husband Brock all of Lynchburg; eight grandchildren who were the loves of his life, his granddaughter, Kathryn Harris Pickering, and his seven grandsons, John Spencer Pickering, Reid Michael Pickering, Kathan McAlister Howell, Tucker Harris Reid, Spencer Rennie Calloway, Maxwell Liam Calloway and Kai Alexander Calloway. He is also survived by his loving companion, Louise “Deasy” Grady, her daughter, Ellen Humphrey and friend James, her son Ben Grady and wife Karen and her grandchildren Paul, Ashley and Ben, Jr.; one sister Jean Mayberry and his former wife and dear friend Louise Calloway.

Snookie was an avid sports fan and supporter of his grandchildren in their athletics. He signed to play professional baseball at the age of 17 with the San Francisco Giants and continued his career with the St. Louis Cardinals. His proudest accomplishment was the love of baseball he passed down to the generations of young players he coached throughout the years. Snookie was inducted into the Lynchburg Sports Hall of Fame in 2004.

Snookie never met a stranger and had a smile and laugh to light up any room. He was first in line to help a neighbor or a stranger and to drive his Pa Pa Mobile for the grandkids. He enjoyed his Sheetz Morning Group and his Stop-In Crew.

A service celebrating his life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with the Rev. Marvin Suitt officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.
