Nellie Phillips Gilliam

Born in Bedford County, October 22, 1928, she was a daughter of the late L.V. Phillips and Nellie Baker Phillips. She was a long time member of College Hill Baptist Church. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, W.C. Gilliam; one son, Gary Michael Gilliam and his wife Julie of Halifax; three sisters, Louise P. Leech of Forest, Betty P. Chaney and Nancy P. Auth both of Concord; three grandchildren, Gary Michael Gilliam, Jr. and his wife Christy and their children, Grayson and Garrett, Matt Gilliam and his wife Sabrina and their son Grant and Amanda Bates and her husband Chuck and their daughter Maylee.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with the Rev. Andrew Grose officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. Monday, February 17, 2014 at Whitten Timberlake Chape, 7404 Timberlake Road, Lynchburg, VA 434-239-0331.
