

of Lynchburg, died Saturday,
February 11, 2012, at Lynchburg Health
and Rehabilitation Center. He was
the husband of the late Sallie Paone Collins.
Born in Bedford Co., he was the son
of the late John Collins and the late
Ollie Rice Collins. In addition to his parents
and his wife, he was preceded in death
by one son, Buddy Collins.
Norm was a retired employee of
Consumers Dornin-Adams after 40 years
of service. He loved to walk and in his later
years would walk a mile to the bus stop early
in the morning, picking up his neighbors
newspapers and putting them on their front
porches. He would ride the bus downtown to
the city market, have coffee with his friends
and walk up the Monument Terrace steps to
Court St. and back down to Church St. He
would then catch the bus back and walk the
mile to his home. He made lots of friends
in his travels.
He is survived by two sons, Norman B. Collins, Jr.
of Rockville, MD and Bill Ragland and his wife,
Sandra, of Lynchburg; eight grandchildren and
a number of great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m.,
Wednesday, February 15, 2012, at Whitten
Timberlake Chapel with the Reverend David Heerspink
officiating. Interment will follow in Presbyterian Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m.,
Tuesday, February 14, 2012, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.
