

Born in Amherst, January 17, 1920, she was a daughter of the late Lindsey B. Hartless and Virdie Staton Hartless. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lynchburg.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Wilfred L. Fontaine, one daughter, Maxine Fontaine; one son, Haywood Fontaine; two sisters, Thelma Staton and Alsie Wise; five brothers, Elvin Hartless, Bernice Hartless, Lannie Hartless, Robbie Hartless and Clifford Hartless and one grandson, Jimmy Fontaine.
She is survived by two sons, James W. Fontaine and his wife Darlene of Madison Heights and Gene E. Fontaine and his wife Janet of Evington; one daughter, Joan F. Smoot and her husband Mike of Lynchburg; one sister, Vilea Eubank and her husband Warren of Madison Heights eight grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with the Rev. John Boyles and the Rev. James D. Newman officiating. Interment will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today, August 4, 2014 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and at other times at the home of her daughter.
