Paul Anderson Layne

Paul Anderson Layne, age 83 of Lynchburg, VA, passed away on Thursday, September 9th, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on February 21st, 1938 in Lynchburg VA, son of the late Lester Layne and late Annie Lloyd Layne. In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by his brother, Walter Layne, sister Hazel Thompson and a grandson, Christopher Layne. Paul proudly served in the United States Army in Okinawa during the Vietnam War and loved his country. He worked as a machinist at Limitorque for over 30 years. He loved the Lord and for 50 years, he faithfully served as a Chaplain at various nursing homes in the Lynchburg area. He enjoyed reading his Bible on the front porch, singing at whatever church asked with his wife and was a member of Hyland Heights Baptist Church. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Hattie Layne and his children Paul Layne, Cornelia Morgan (Steve), Kenneth Layne (Shannon), Christopher Layne (Dana) and Hattie Carson (Forrest). He is also survived by his brother, Wilkins Layne (Sondra), sister, Francis Saunders (Willie), sister-in-law Verla Layne and brother-in-law Buddy Thompson. He loved his family more than anything and cherished his Grand-children; Paul Turner Layne Jr.( Bethany), Savannah Morgan, Tara Drew Scott (Austin), Casey Chizek Layne, Jacob Layne, Summer Sunshine Holley (Regan), Thomas Layne, Andrew Layne, Madilyn Layne, , Olivia Carson, Zachary Carson, and his great-grandchildren; Jason Layne, Waylan Layne, Charli Poole and Mila Drew Scott. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00am on Tuesday, September 14th, 2021 at Fort Hill Memorial Park in Lynchburg with military honors being rendered by American Legion Post #16. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Paul’s name to Amedisys Hospice (https://www.amedisys.com/) or Alzheimer’s Association (https://www.alz.org/).
