Born November 20, 1957, Steve was a devoted Christian whose faith in the Lord was the foundation of his life. A faithful member of Brookhill Wesleyan Church in Forest, he loved the Lord deeply and found great joy in serving Him. His family takes comfort in knowing that he is now rejoicing in the presence of his Savior.
Steve was a graduate of Jefferson Forest High School, Central Virginia Community College, and Lynchburg College, where he earned his bachelor's degree. He later received his master's degree from the University of North Carolina. He dedicated his career to public service through libraries, serving as Assistant Director of the Bedford County Public Library before becoming Director of the Amherst County Public Library.
A lifelong learner, Steve had an insatiable curiosity and a deep love of reading, history, and discovering new things. One of his favorite pastimes was visiting Williamsburg, Virginia, with his sister, where they enjoyed exploring its rich history and learning all they could about the town's past.
Steve will be remembered for his kindness, caring heart, attention to detail, intellectual curiosity, and enduring love of books and history. His legacy will live on in the many lives he touched, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish Steve's memory include his sister and best friend Stacy Preston; his special cousin who was more like a sister Cindy Crawley Campbell and her husband Dennis; his 10 additional cousins and all of their spouses; his uncle and 2 aunts.
There will be a celebration of Steve's life on Thursday, July 9th, 2026, at 1pm with Pastor Brian Cook officiating. Burial will follow at Virginia Memorial Park. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service.
The family would like to extend a sincere and special thank you to 2 very special caregivers, Tabatha Minnick and Tammie Eastridge for their devoted care and attention, and a heartfelt thank you to all of his hospice care team for all of their dedication during this time.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making any memorial donations to Brookhill Wesleyan Church, 1043 Cifax Rd, Forest, VA 24551.
