

She was born on June 9, 1924 in Campbell County, daughter of the late William Payne Phillips and Florence Arthur Phillips.
Phyllis was a long time member of Salem United Methodist Church and helped start their Sunshine Seniors Club which is enjoyed by many. She was a retired executive secretary with B&W McDermott having worked in both Washington, D.C. and Lynchburg. After coming back to Lynchburg she also looked after her mother for 16 years. She was a proud member of the Colonel Charles Lynch Chapter of the DAR in Campbell County. Phyllis was a family favorite because of her generosity and lively personality and was especially loved by her nieces and nephews.
Survivors include a brother, Marvin T. Phillips; two sisters, Marian P. Barnard and Edna P. Wyatt; her nieces and nephews, Phyllis Dale Rickwood (Phyllis’s namesake), Jan Phillips, Lynne Wheeler, Jennifer Phillips, Ronnie Phillips and Thom Payne; great nieces and nephews, Travis Maddox, Tom Wheeler, Jacqueline Wheeler, Brandon Phillips, Lloyd Phillips, William T. Phillips, Amanda Pribble and Liza Saunders.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Gentle Shepard Hospice and Privette Care Home for the wonderful loving care given to Phyllis.
Friends and family may call at Dale’s home, 440 Woodhaven Drive, Lynchburg on Monday, September 11, 2017 from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm as well as 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Salem United Methodist Church with Reverend Chuck Schooler officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Salem United Methodist Church, 15 White Cypress Drive, Forest, VA 24551.
