He was born on September 4, 1930 in Lynchburg and was the son of the late David Denton Hunter McHaney and Janie B. McHaney. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ralph McHaney.
Mac proudly served his country in the United States Army and after his service was complete, he went to work at Babcock & Wilcox until he retired. He was a longtime member of Thomas Road Baptist Church and loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, June Carey McHaney; children William “Denny” McHaney and his wife Jane, Douglas K. McHaney and his wife Melanie; grandchildren Tech Sgt. Ryan McHaney USAF and his wife Shelby, Cayla McHaney, Caleb McHaney; great-grandchildren Hailey McHaney and Ryder McHaney; sister Ann Winston and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services celebrating Mac’s life will be held on Monday, February 21, 2022 at Thomas Road Baptist Church in the Pate Chapel at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Jonathan Falwell and Dr. J. Gordon Henry officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery in Naruna, VA.
