Obituary of Raleigh Elmore Worsham
Raleigh Elmore Worsham, 94, of Westminster Canterbury passed away Wednesday, December 27, 2017. Born in Martinsville, July 5, 1923, he was the son of the late Jip Y. Worsham and Lucy Ellen Gallaher Worsham. One brother, William T. Worsham and one sister, Elsie Worsham Creasy also preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Audrey Crawford Worsham; two sons, R. Elroy Worsham and his wife Janet of Lakeland, FL and William Travis Worsham and his wife Suzi of Leesburg; one sister, Gertha W. Adams of Concord; eight grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Raleigh was a US Army veteran and served during WWII. He was the retired owner and operator of R.E. Worsham Electrical Company Inc., he served a president of the Northern Virginia Electrical Contractors Association, past president of the Fairfax Lions Club, was a member of the Military Order of the Stars and Bars, The National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution the American Legion Post 16 and was a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church. He was also a private pilot with instrument rating for over 20 years. A service celebrating his life will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with the Rev. Dave Heerspink officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park with military honors by the American Legion Post 16. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Salvation Army, 2215 Park Avenue, Lynchburg, VA 24501, or the American Diabetes Association, www.diabetes.org.
