Born on March 18, 1937 in Danville, he was the son of the late Richard Lee Denton and the late Louise M Denton. Richard was a diesel mechanic with Phillips Equipment Corporation for 31 years before retiring in 2005. He attended New Chapel Baptist Church and had accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior. After retirement, you could find Dickie in his favorite recliner enjoying all Nascar events where he faithfully supported Bill Elliott. He also got pleasure from watching the abundant wildlife that frequently visited his yard. Dickie enjoyed gardening and appreciated the fruits of his labor.
Left to cherish his memories are his daughters, Brenda Faye (Joe), Susan Leigh (Lamar) Jody Yvonne (Steve), & Theresa Kaye “Terri”, 13 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and a special long-time friend Joe Kershner, as well as numerous other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his youngest daughter Janice Marie and his loving Pekinese “Teddy”.
A memorial service will be held at 6 pm on Monday, April 9, 2018 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with Pastor Tim Dooley. The family will receive friends following the service till 8 pm.
