Sorry to hear about Richard. I met him thru Hyland Heights Baptist Church. We have been in contact and I helped him with his last move. Funny story he told me was he knew why they had to demolish HHS. He said the first year the school opened, his band talked the principle into letting them play in the auditorium and it got soo wild they cracked the foundation. We laughed about that often. Will miss my shady hollow buddy!! RIP

Dear Mr. Hawkins, Rhonda and family we are so sorry to hear of Ricky’s passing.

Seems like yesterday I was in the 11th grade and Ricky was a senior. I remember standing in the small band room he had setup in the basement, watching his band Blew Smoke practice. Gator was on bass and Dennis on the drums. They played “What you’re doing” by Rush and it blew my mind. I had been playing guitar for many years, but I had no idea a regular person could sound like a rock star. Ricky was so dedicated to the guitar and he really inspired me. A year or 2 later I remember seeing him play the Rush song “La Villa Strangiato” in Bobby Butler’s basement with Steve Baker on drums and Mike Worely on bass. That song is an incredibly complex instrumental and they nailed it. Ricky showed me a lot of great guitar riffs that I still remember to this day. Too many great memories to list here, but most the important is the day Ricky introduced me to my wife. Thank you Ricky!

I totally agree with Mac, Ricky had a heart of gold. Our deepest sympathies to you all.

Rick and I were in a band together way back. We had quite a few adventures that I will always remember. He was a kind soul and it's hard to believe that he is gone. My condolences to his family and friends.

I’ve just learned that Rick passed away. We kept in contact by text every few weeks to check on each other and hadn’t heard from him. I’m sorry for your loss. He had a young cat that he called Lil Bit. Has anyone taken care of her? She had been a great companion for him. Let me know if I can help. My condolences

Mr. Hawkins and Rhonda and family.

Ricky and I had last seen each other roughly a year ago when he stopped by to see me.
Even though it had been several years since we had talked to each other it was like we had been in touch on a regular basis. A big reason for this, I believe is because Ricky was genuine and thoughtful, kind and caring.
As you well know better than any one, at times awful stubborn. He had more nicknames than anyone I have ever known.
We shared some pretty unique experiences. He was unique, a friend that I will never forget.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all. May God bring you comfort and peace.

With love.
