Richard Allen Thornhill

Born in Lynchburg on October 28, 1941, he was the son of the late Oliver Walker Thornhill and Elsie Alcock Thornhill. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Walker Clay Thornhill.

Richard proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. Following his military service, he began a career in law enforcement as a police officer in Newport News before retiring from the Norfolk Naval Base Police Department. Throughout his life, Richard was known as a hardworking man who took great pride in providing for his family.

Richard cherished his family and was especially close to his sister, Virginia, whose love and companionship meant a great deal to him. He found joy in spending time with his children and grandchildren, and he also had a special affection for the pets that shared his home, especially his cat, Tom. He had many interests that brought him joy, including collecting memorabilia and firearms, watching sports on television, and cheering on his beloved Washington Redskins. He also found great happiness in feeding the wildlife that visited his backyard and had a special love for his pets, especially his dog, his cats, and his beloved cat, Tom.

Richard is survived by his daughter, Tanya Odell; his two sons, Richard Allen Thornhill, Jr. and Aubrey Wayne Thornhill; his sister, Virginia Thornhill Shelton; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and his beloved cat, Tom.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of Willow Ridge for the exceptional care, kindness, and support they provided to Richard throughout his time there.

At Richard's request, no services are planned at this time.
