Obituary of Robert Earl Harris Sr.
Robert Earl Harris, Sr., 96, of Rustburg, passed away Sunday, February 8, 2015 in Lynchburg. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Josie Hester Harris. Born in Lynchburg, January 4, 1919, he was the son of the late Sterling Harris and Ora Lawhorne Harris. He was retired from the US Postal Service after 33 years of service. Robert proudly served his country in the US Army. He was a World War II veteran and a Pearl Harbor survivor. He was an avid saltwater fisherman especially at the Grandview Pier in Hampton, VA. He loved to watch his grandchildren play youth sports as they were growing up. He was preceded in death by two sons, Phillip Ragland and Robert E. Harris, Jr. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Rhonda Harris Inge of Rustburg; two daughters-in-law, Pam Ragland and Lisa Harris; one brother, Clarence E. Harris of Lynchburg; six grandchildren, Robert Ragland and wife Maria, April Lopez and Jay, Phillip Ragland, Jr., Chris Inge and wife Kelcey, Robert Harris, III and Cody Harris and seven great grandchildren, Lauren Lopez, Amber Lopez, Jeffrey Lopez, Brandon Ragland, Taylor Ragland, Sam Inge and Coleman Inge. A graveside service will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, February 12, 2015 at Cumbie Memorial Cemetery in Rustburg with the Rev. Steve Turner officiating. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post 16. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and at other times at the residence.
