Robert Smiley Staton

Robert Smiley Staton, 82, of Rustburg, passed away Friday, July 1, 2011 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Doris Powell Staton.

Born August 2, 1928 in Amherst County, he was the son of the late Ernest Smiley and Syra Tomlin Staton. He was a retired supervisor with Macke Vending Company and was presently employed at Powell Trucking & Equipment Company. Mr. Staton was a member of Flat Creek baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, Kenneth Staton of Altavista, Lois Potoeski and husband, Thomas of Plymouth, PA, Robert Earl Staton and wife, Sandra of Rustburg; Sharon Canterbury, and Patsy Farrell, both of Fayetteville, West Virginia; three brothers, Ernest Staton of Amissville, Liger Staton and wife, Judy of Culpeper, and Charles Staton and wife, Carol of Amissville; one sister, Orphie Parr of Amherst County; twenty-two grandchildren; thirty-eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

A funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with the Rev. Earnest Carey officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial park.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
