Roger was born in Martinsville, VA on December 27, 1949, to Lonnie Hall and Mildred Barbour Hall, both who preceded him in death. Roger courageously battled a Glioblastoma brain tumor, which was diagnosed in November of 2008. Most wonderful of all is that Roger won the war when he went to be with Jesus at 11:11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 30, 2012.
Roger leaves a wonderful legacy of family. He was twice married. Roger’s first wife was Brenda Hundley Hall. They were blessed with two children, Roger Dean Hall Jr. and Kimberly Dawn Hall. Children of Roger Hall Jr. and Jill Wall are Jacob, Parker, and Samantha. Children of Kimberly Hall and Rayfe Swayne are Austin and Cole. Austin is expecting to father Roger’s first great-grandchild in October.
As life changed, Roger met and married Sue Johnson Greene. From this marriage Roger was blessed to add another son to his life, Paul Ellis Greene, Sue’s son from her previous marriage. Roger and Sue proceeded to have two sons together, Joshua Alan Hall and Josiah Aaron Hall. Children of Paul Greene and Rebecca Owens are Deanna, Alex, Jesse, Christopher, Heather, Emily, Hannah, and Kaitlyn. Children of Joshua Hall and Corrie Campbell are Joshua Jr. and Presley. Children of Josiah Hall and Erin Thornton are Lilly, Brock, and a baby girl due to be born in July. Roger has 17 grandchildren in all, with one on the way.
Roger worked in the grocery business for years before transitioning to printing. Before his illness forced him to retire early, Roger was employed by Mail America, in Forest, VA for over 20 years. In the face of his illness, Roger stayed determined, and became a “Gentleman Farmer” of a cattle farm at his home in Rustburg, a life-long dream that he treasured. With the help of many friends and family, Roger was able to build a working farm from the ground-up, mostly coming to fruition after his diagnosis.
Roger loved his family, but most of all, Roger loved the Lord. Roger and Sue were blessed to find and join New Chapel Baptist Church in Rustburg, VA after moving to Rustburg in 2001. New Chapel’s cemetery is where Roger has chosen to make his final resting place.
Visitation for Roger will be held at Whitten’s Funeral home, 7404 Timberlake Rd., Lynchburg, VA, from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday June 1, 2012. A wonderful celebration of Roger’s life will be in the main sanctuary of Thomas Road Baptist Church, located at 1 Mountain View Rd., in Lynchburg, VA. Interment will follow at New Chapel Baptist Church at the corner of New Chapel Rd., and Bear Creek Rd., in Rustburg, VA.
