Roger Ray Wade

Roger Ray Wade, 74, of Lynchburg passed away, Wednesday, March 20, 2019 following a long illness. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Phyllis Fortner Wade. Born in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Roy Ray Wade and Elsie Privett Wade. He retired from Otis Elevator and was at the top of his game in the elevator trade where he clocked in over 50 years of hard work. He was a lifelong member of Mountain View Church of God where he loved to sing “I’ll Fly Away” and “His Eye is on the Sparrow”. He also loved meeting up with his friends in the ROMEO club. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Nathaniel Ray Wade. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Eric Wade and his wife Cathy of Concord, Jared Wade and his wife Daphne of South Carolina and Chaz Wade of Lynchburg; his sister, Lafonda Gunter and her husband Alfred of Lynchburg and six grandchildren, Alaina Wade, Megan Wade, Natalie Wade, Carson Wade, Elliott Wade and Cooper Wade. A service celebrating his life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 23, 2019 at Mountain View Church of God with Pastor Lonni A. Wickard officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to9 p.m. Friday at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.
