

Russell was born on January 14, 1934 in Fleetwood, PA. He was the sixth child of Richard Gebris Strouse and Gertrude Marie Malone. Two brothers and a sister died before him. Two sisters, Patricia Christman of Bethlehem, PA and Marilyn Weidman of Allentown, PA survive.
Marilyn Dolcey Strouse, Russell’s wife of 55 years, survives as do his children, Joseph A. Strouse of Charlottesville, Kathleen Strouse and her husband, Brian McMaster, their two children, Nathaniel and Elliott, of Washington, DC and Mary Strouse, also of Washington, DC and his sister-in-law Loretta Stallings of Monroe.
Russ and Marilyn moved to Central Virginia from New Jersey in 1994, living first in Motley, VA and then in Forest and finally in Monroe. Russ was Operations Manager for Virginia Maintenance and then worked for ProHaven Apartments and then Langley Family Trust. After retiring he worked in Maintenance at New Vistas School. Russ owned several businesses including a service station in New Jersey, Mary’s Mattress Factory in Charlottesville , and the original Dustbusters in Lynchburg.
Russ was in the Army from June of 1952 until June of 1955. He served as a Radio Repairman in Korea during the Korean Conflict. Among his favorite charities were Smile Train, P.O. Box 96231, Washington, DC and Gleaning for the World, P.O. Box 645, Concord, Va. 24538
At Russell’s request there will be no formal funeral services. Co-workers and family friends will be invited to a Celebration of Life reception at a future date. Whitten Monelison Chapel will provide cremation services. Burial will be private.
