Samuel Pernell Hamlett, 86, of Lynchburg died Tuesday, June 18, 2019, at his residence. He was the husband of Peggy Pollard Hamlett. Born December 1, 1932, in Charlotte County, he was the son of the late James Frank Hamlett and the late Florence Jackson Hamlett.
Sam was a retired sales associate for ARCET/ARC3, and he served our country in the U.S. Army. He especially enjoyed his two years in Germany. Sam loved to hunt with his dogs and enjoyed all kinds of sports, especially car racing. He also enjoyed gardening, and playing scratch tickets with his daughter Kim.
In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by one daughter, Carla Ann Hamlett; and three siblings, Hubert D. Hamlett, Christine H. Newcomb and Doris H. Childress.
In addition to his wife, Sam is survived by his daughters, Kim Childress and her husband Jimmie Jr. of Lynchburg and Robin Grunwell and her husband Randy of Suwanee, GA; one sister, Mildred H. Gaines of Appomattox; four grandchildren, Jim Childress, III and his wife Amy, Jennifer Lynn Gong and her husband Joe, Chris A. Grunwell and Lisa G. Bright and her husband Kevin; seven great-grandchildren, Jacob, Jason, Jenna and Julia Gong; and Penelope, Paisley and Carly Childress.
A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 21, 2019, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with the Rev. Dwight Weaver officiating. Interment will follow at Virginia Memorial Park in Forest. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Thursday, June 20, 2019, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.
