

Sherman Dixon Stanley, Sr., 72, of Rustburg, died Friday, May 21, 2010 at his residence. He was the devoted husband of Shirley Jean Hughes Stanley for fifty years.
Born April 28, 1938 in Halifax County, he was the son of the late James Edward and Myrtle Crews Stanley Bray and was also preceded in death by a brother, Harvey Stanley and a grandson, Logan Stanley. He was retired from the Virginia Department of Highways and was a member of Hyland Heights Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Stanley is survived by two sons, Sherman D. Stanley, Jr. and wife, Carla and Gary H. Stanley and wife, Dawn, all of Rustburg; two brothers, James B. Stanley and wife, Vernell of Richmond and Louis E. “Punk” Stanley and wife, Mary Ann of Nathalie; one sister, Bernice Bray, also of Nathalie; two step-sisters, Lula B. Cockerill of Halifax and Paulette B. Chandler of Hampton and four grandchildren, Nathan Gillespie, Adam Stanley, Paige Stanley, and Carson Stanley.
A funeral services will conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday May 24, 2010 at Hyland Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Carl Weiser and the Rev. Roger Roller officiating. Interment will follow in the Cumbie Memorial Cemetery in Rustburg.
The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m., Sunday, May 23, 2010 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and other times at the residence.
