

Born January 7, 1930, in Covington, she was a daughter of the late Gilmer and Nellie Hostetter Ballard. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Bettye B. Dunlap.
She was a graduate of the Virignia Baptist Hospital School of Nursing and retired from the Central Virginia Training Center, as a nurse, after 37 years of service. She was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church.
Survivors also include her daughter, Sheryl F. Harris, of Lynchburg; her son, Walter B. Harris, of Petersburg; two sisters, Lillian Ballard, of Lynchburg and Nancy B. Maddox and husband Richard, of Monroe.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, by the Rev. Glynn Coleman. A private interment will be held in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
